Threats existing worldwide worsening - Putin (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Feb 16 (Interfax) - The world has not become safer and a lot of problems have only worsened in the past year, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"The situation in the world has not grown calmer, has not grown better in the past year," Putin said at a Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) board meeting on Thursday.

"On the contrary, a large number of existing threats have only exacerbated," he said.

The military-political and economic rivalry between global and regional centers of influence and between individual states has intensified, the head of state said.

The current situation is putting ever-growing quality and efficiency requirements on the FSB's work, he said.
