Activity of foreign special services in Russia not declining - Putin (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Feb 16 (Interfax) - The activity of foreign special services in Russia is not declining, and foreign intelligence agencies take special interest in Russia's military-technical capabilities, President Vladimir Putin said at a Federal Security Service board meeting on Thursday.

"According to investigative information, the activity of foreign special services in Russia is not declining. Activities by 53 staff workers and 386 agents of foreign special services were curbed last year," Putin said.

Bearing this in mind, the counterintelligence bodies have to meet increased requirements today, Putin said.

"It is important to neutralize foreign special services' attempts to get access to classified information, primarily that which concerns our country's military-technical capabilities," he said.

"Among the issues on the agenda is improvement of the system to protect information constituting state secrets, especially amid the agencies' transition to electronic document turnover," he said.
