Lavrov discusses Afghanistan, Ukraine with Tillerson

BONN. Feb 16 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the situation in Afghanistan and a settlement process in Ukraine with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

"We discussed the situation in Afghanistan and in Ukraine. In all these fields, our American partners are interested in joining the efforts that are being made now to overcome these conflicts," Lavrov told journalists on Thursday.

"As soon as the teams at the Department of State and [other] agencies dealing with these issues are put together, we said we are ready to arrange relevant contacts," he said.

"It's clear that we couldn't resolve all problems, and I believe we will never resolve them in relations between such great powers as Russia and the U.S., but we have a common understanding that, where our interests coincide - and there are quite a few such fields - we should move ahead and demonstrate the U.S.' and Russia's ability to perform the role that has been allotted to them," Lavrov said.
