Astana-2 final communique was not adopted because of late arrival of Turkish and opposition delegations - head of Syrian delegation

ASTANA. Feb 16 (Interfax) - The late arrival of the delegations of Turkey and the Syrian opposition was the reason why the final communique was not adopted in Astana, head of the Damascus delegation Bashar Jaafari said.

"I would want to say that the non-adoption today of the final communique of today's meeting stems primarily from the fact that the Turkish delegation and also the armed opposition were very late arriving in Astana," he said at the final press conference in Astana.

"As you know both delegations arrived in Astana today. And this is an indication of the nonserious attitude to participation on the part of the Turkish delegation and the delegation of the armed opposition," Jaafari said.

He accused the delegations of "the absence of true will and determination" and an attempt to obstruct the meeting.
