Over 4,300 people killed in Donbas since beginning of conflict - DPR ombudsman (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Feb 16 (Interfax) - Over 4,300 people, including 595 women and 74 children, have been killed in southeastern Ukraine in the Donetsk region since the beginning of the conflict, DPR human rights commissioner Darya Morozova said.

"A total of 4,331 people, including 595 women and 3,736 men, have been killed since the beginning of the military conflict in the Donetsk region. Including 74 children," Morozova said in the Federation Council on Thursday.

A new stage of the escalation of the conflict, which is resulting in casualties and destruction of infrastructure, began on January 27, she said.

"In the week between January 27, 2017 and February 2, 2017 alone, 42 civilians sustained injuries of various degrees, including two children. Unfortunately, four people were killed," Morozova said.

When the attacks resumed, the local authorities with assistance from the Emergency Situations ministry evacuated some 300 people, including 92 children, from the central district of Donetsk, she said.

"We accommodated them in a quiet neighborhood, but in the evening, as you know, there was a huge explosion there and people had to be taken to a different place again," Morozova said.

The people are now less used to constant shooting thanks to the Minsk Agreements, but people are now again experiencing big psychological problems, she said.

A total of 8,064 displaced persons, including 2,099 children younger than 18, have now been registered on the territory of the Donetsk region since the beginning of the military conflict, Morozova said.

"Over 11,200 infrastructure facilities have now been destroyed in the Donetsk republic. For example, over 6,755 facilities have now been destroyed in Donetsk, 262 in Debaltseve, 521 in Horlivka, 68 in Dokuchaevsk, 291 in Yenakieve, 91 in Zhdanivka, 72 in Kirovsk, and 1,066 in Makiivka," Morozova said.

A total of 6,131 residential buildings, 760 power lines and power distribution points, 174 heat supply facilities, 46 water supply facilities, 2,669 gas supply facilities, 98 healthcare facilities, 486 schools, 54 universities, 54 cultural establishments, 230 road infrastructure facilities, and 58 industrial production facilities have been destroyed, she said.
