MOSCOW. Feb 16 (Interfax) - Russia and Uruguay signed a joint statement regarding the prevention of an arms race in outer space, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
"The Russian Federation and Uruguay will not be the first to deploy any type of weapons in outer space and are calling on the countries, which possess space potential, follow the suit for weapons never to appear in space," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its website.
Russia and Uruguay "will take every possible effort to prevent outer space from turning into an arena of military confrontation and ensure security of peaceful space activity," it said.
