Joint task force for Syria to hold ceasefire implementation consultations - Kazakh Foreign Ministry

ASTANA. Feb 17 (Interfax) - The joint task force for Syria intends to hold regular consultations on ceasefire implementation, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said in a report on Friday.

"Following two days of negotiations, the guarantor countries [Russia, Turkey and Iran] said they had coordinated regulations on a joint task force to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire. The task force will ensure the separation of armed opposition groups from terrorist organizations and confidence building measures which will promote the Syria political settlement process," the report said.

"The joint task force will hold regular consultations on the implementation of the cessation of hostilities, will investigate breaches of UN Security Council Resolution 2254, will prevent escalation of violence, and will help ease humanitarian tensions in Syria," the report said.

Another round of intra-Syrian talks took place in Astana on February 15-16 with the participation of the Syrian government, the armed opposition, the ceasefire guarantor countries - Russia, Turkey and Iran - as well as Jordan, the United Nations and the United States, the latter as an observer.
