Russia bidding in tender to supply helicopters for Egyptian Mistral-class helicopter carriers - FSMTC (Part 2)

ABU DHABI. Feb 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia stands ready to supply helicopters for the Mistral-class helicopter carriers to Egypt, Alexei Frolkin, deputy director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), told Interfax on Monday.

"JSC Rosoboronexport is now participating in an international tender to supply helicopters for Mistral-class ships," Frolkin said.

"Russian-made military products will be supplied to Egypt in accordance with Russia's contract obligations," Frolkin said with reference to Russian-Egyptian military-technical cooperation.

In October 2016, the Russian Helicopters holding company stated its readiness to supply Egypt with Kamov Ka-52 deck-based helicopters for the Mistral-class helicopter carriers.

It was reported in September 2015 that Egypt was buying from France both Mistral-class helicopter carriers that Paris had refused to deliver to Russia.

Former Russian presidential chief of staff Sergei Ivanov said Cairo might buy Russian helicopters and equipment worth over $1 billion for the Mistral-class helicopter carriers.
