MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax) - Russia and Belarus will hold the West 2017 military training exercises in the fall of this year, and foreign military attaches will be invited to monitor them, Vladimir Shamanov, the head of the Russian State Duma defense committee, said on Monday.
"Bearing in mind the situation that is now being fuelled on NATO's eastern flank, our Belarusian brothers and we will conduct the West 2017 training exercises this year, in the fall," Shamanov said at a meeting with foreign military attaches accredited in Moscow.
The military attaches will be invited to this training, he said.
Russia conducts major military exercises once a year, Shamanov said.
The headquarters of Russia's Western Military District said on February 3 that the Russian-Belarusian strategic maneuvers West 2017 would be conducted simultaneously on several ranges in the two countries.
