MOSCOW. Feb 22 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he had discussed U.S. President Donald Trump's idea of safe zones in Syria with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Bonn, but insisted that it required coordination with Damascus.
"We touched upon this subject [safe zones] at my meeting with Tillerson on the sidelines of the G20 ministerial meeting in Bonn on February 16. The U.S. side said the concept was being considered," Lavrov said at a press conference on Wednesday.
"Of course, we will urge coordination with the Syrian government of any initiatives of the kind related to the Syrian territory," the minister said.
