Russia's rearmament with Bastion coastal defense systems to be completed in 2017 - Shoigu

MOSCOW. Feb 22 (Interfax) - The Russian Armed Forces' rearmament with the Bastion coastal defense system will be completed in 2017 Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

"As to our coasts, we are completing the deployment of the Bastion system this year. These are coastal defense systems. They have a fairly long range. We substantially defend the approaches from the sea," the minister said in the State Duma on Wednesday.

Russia's Black Sea Fleet, Pacific Fleet and Northern Fleet have already received the systems, Shoigu said.

Most of the work to rearm the divisions guarding Russia's borders ought to be completed by 2020, Shoigu said. "Here, we are talking about the next stage, more modern weapons," Shoigu said.
