Lavrov says he didn't discuss Syria with Tillerson in Tuesday phone call

MOSCOW. Feb 22 (Interfax) - The subject of Syria was not discussed between U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in their telephone conversation on Tuesday, Lavrov said, adding that Tillerson had called only to offer condolences on the death of Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin.

"We did not discuss the subject of Syria or any other substantive matter. As I have said before, we spoke about all of those issues in Bonn on February 16. The only reason why Rex Tillerson called yesterday was to offer personal condolences on Vitaly Churkin's tragic death. He was very cordial and generally spoke in the spirit of the condolences we had received from U.S. President Donald Trump," Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday.
