Zakharchenko reports surge in applications for DPR passports following Russia's recognition

DONETSK. Feb 22 (Interfax) - Donetsk has reported a dramatic increase in the number of applications for passports of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) following their recognition by Russia.

"The situation involving passports has become quite critical following Vladimir Putin's decree. The number of applications has increased dramatically. We are now raising the question of using additional capacities," Alexander Zakharchenko, the head of the DPR, told reporters on Wednesday.

The DPR authorities will stabilize the situation by early March, Zakharchenko said. "The issue will be resolved in the next couple of weeks," he said.
