Contract for supply of S-400 systems to India may be signed this year, number of systems being discussed - FSMTC (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Feb 22 (Interfax) - A contract for the delivery to India of S-400 air defense systems is expected to be signed this year, Maria Vorobyova, a spokesperson for the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), told Interfax on Wednesday.

"We are hoping that the contract for the supply of S-400 Triumf air defense systems will be signed before the end of this year," she said.

The conditions and timeframes of the delivery and the number of systems to be shipped will be determined through contract negotiations, Vorobyova said.

An intergovernmental agreement on the supply to India of S-400 Triumf long-range air defense systems was signed in October 2016, she said.

According to earlier reports, India would like to buy from Russia up to 12 S-400 Triumf air defense systems. It was said on the official booth of the program Make in India at the international industrial exhibit INNOPROM in Yekaterinburg (July 2016).

The first S-400 air defense systems may be supplied to India 2-3 years after the contract is signed, Viktor Kladov, Director for International Cooperation and Regional Policy Department of the state corporation Rostec, said on February 16.
