ASTANA. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The Kazakh Main Transport Prosecutor's Office has uncovered gross violations in the registration and deregistration of Airbus A340 civil aircraft, which were probably sold to Syria bypassing European sanctions.
"The media has been discussing the possible selling of Airbus aircraft registered in the Kazakh state register of civil aircraft to Syria. An analysis of the materials showed that the Investment and Development Ministry's Civil Aviation Committee registered and deregistered those aircraft in gross violation of the Law 'On Use of Air Space of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Aviation Activity'," the Office said in a statement on Monday.
The materials were submitted to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau on February 25, it said.
It was reported earlier on social networks that Iran, wishing to help Syria, had procured three civil aircraft in evasion of the European sanctions. The aircraft allegedly belonged to Olympic Airlines, which went bankrupt in 2009. The planes had Kazakh registration numbers.
