Russia creates special-purpose aviation division

MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - A special-purpose aviation division has been re-created in the Moscow region, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"The Aerospace Forces' aviation base in the Moscow region has been transformed into a special-purpose aviation division," the Ministry's department of information and mass communications told Interfax on Monday.

Its fleet will include both passenger planes and helicopters, including Tupolev Tu-154 and Tu-134, Ilyushin Il-62, Il-76 and Il-18, Antonov (An-148, An-12 and An-26, the Mil Mi-8 helicopter, and other aircraft, the spokesperson said.

"The special-purpose aviation division of the Aerospace Forces is designed to transport personnel, equipment and cargo to Russian Federation Armed Forces, to support search and rescue and evacuation operations, as well as other special missions," the ministry said.
