YEREVAN. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The Nagorno-Karabakh people's right to self-determination is a starting point for Karabakh conflict settlement, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said following talks with European Council President Donald Tusk.
"We have certainly also touched upon the Karabakh problem at the talks and reaffirmed that there is no military solution in this issue. No matter how the Armenian party is ready for reasonable compromises, nevertheless, the Nagorno-Karabakh people's right to determine their future via free expression of will is the starting point in this problem. There cannot be any other approach here," Sargsyan was quoted by the Armenian presidential press service as saying on Monday.
The Nagorno-Karabakh people's right to self-determination is proclaimed not only in the fundamental international documents, "but also has been recognized and formalized in numerous statements by the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, which is the only specialized body tackling the conflict, long ago," he said.
"In other words, this is a collective perception of this issue by the international community, not only Armenia. We are grateful to the EU for a well-balanced position regarding the peaceful settlement process, trust and facilitation for the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs," Sargsyan said.
