MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The Russian president's special representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, has met with the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ahmed in Moscow.
"At the meeting the parties expressed serious concern over the escalation of the armed conflict in Yemen, while emphasizing the need for participants in the crisis to promptly abandon the vicious logic of resolving their existing differences militarily," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its website on Monday.
"Russia noted the need for a resolute fight against the terrorist groups controlling vast territories in southeast Yemen," the ministry said.
"The parties expressed their shared view in favor of a swift resumption of the intra-Yemeni negotiating process based on respect for the interests of all of the country's leading political forces. The parties reaffirmed the importance of taking urgent steps to relieve the catastrophic socio-economic situation of the Yemeni population, including the lifting of its air and sea blockade," the statement said.
