Power supplies resumed in Ukraine's Avdiivka

AVDIIVKA. Feb 27 (Interfax) - Power supply has been resumed in Donetsk region's Avdiivka as of 5:00 p.m. on Monday, an Interfax correspondent said.

At about 2:30 p.m. the Russian side of the Joint Control and Coordination Center (JCCC) gave written confirmation of guarantees regarding the ceasefire and repair teams immediately began eliminating two electrical transmission line breakages near Avdiivka. After the repairs and a technical check at substations were completed, the electricity supply in Avdiivka was restored, the Interfax correspondent said.

Donetsk regional military-civil administration head Pavlo Zhebrivskiy has confirmed the report. "The electricity supply in Avdiivka has been resumed," Zhebrivskiy wrote on his Facebook page in Monday.

"The town remained without electricity for four days. It took the Russian side four days to give the JCCC ceasefire guarantees in the area of the power transmission line breakage. In spite of that, the town never gave up and continued to live and defend itself," Zhebrivskiy added.

Residents also report that water supply has been restored in their homes.

Currently, the temperature in Avdiivka is about 0 degrees and there is a heavy fog.

Shelling can be heard in the town as coming from the industrial zone, the source of fire supposedly being a tank, an Interfax correspondent said.

An overhead high-voltage (110 kV) power transmission line near the town of Avdiivka was severed as a result of hostilities on February 24, which cut power supplies to the town and also the Avdiivka Coking Plant and the Donetsk filtration plant. The two enterprises are vital for the operation of the centralized water supply system and central heating in the town.
