MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Moscow and Beijing consider it necessary to build up collective efforts to deescalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov and Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou discussed the situation on the Korean Peninsula and the Northeastern Asia in general in Beijing on Tuesday.
"Both sides stressed the need to build up collective political and diplomatic efforts in the interests of deescalating tensions and launching the process of military and political detente in Northeastern Asia, which would promote the creation of favorable conditions for the resolution of the nuclear and other problems of the Korean Peninsula," the ministry said in a statement.
