GENEVA. March 2 (Interfax) - The readiness of parties in the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva to discuss several topics simultaneously may become a breakthrough, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said.
"The novelty of the situation that has come to shape in Geneva is that the parties agreed with Staffan de Mistura proposal to discuss problems simultaneously, which means several tracks," Gatilov told a briefing in Geneva on Wednesday.
"The issue of a transitional administration body, the issue of elections, the Constitution, and a package on fight against terrorism at the insistence of the Syrian delegation," he said.
"If there is in the end a common understanding that these issues will be discussed as parallel tracks, this will be a big step forward, because previously both sides insisted on the priority discussion of certain issues," Gatilov said.
"The threat of terrorism is the issue that should be solved in a priority manner. We told this absolutely directly to Staffan de Mistura," he said.
"If one is able to start a round of talks on this basis, this gives hope that there will be forward movement," Gatilov said.
