MOSCOW. March 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Some military units stationed in Karachayevo-Cherkessia, the Chechen Republic, Dagestan and Crimea have been alerted for a surprise combat readiness check, the headquarters of the Southern Military District said.
"The alerted military units will march to the pre-designated firing ranges for military training. On the routes, they will practice incidents to repel attacks by a hypothetical enemy and orient in unfamiliar areas. On the firing ranges, the military will practice tactical actions and conduct firing exercises," the Southern Military District press service said in a report released on Thursday.
The surprise check will involve some 3,000 troops and over 1,000 weapons and pieces of military and special equipment, including T-72B3 tanks, BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles and BTR-82A armored personnel carriers.
