If Iskander-M placed in Kaliningrad region, it would give Berlin reason for 'great concern' - German FM

BERLIN. March 9 (Interfax) - Russia's placing Iskander-M missiles in the Kaliningrad region on a permanent basis will cause Berlin's concern and lead to degradation in maintaining security in Europe, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said.

"If Iskander-M missiles were placed in the Kaliningrad region on a permanent basis, it would give us a reason for great concern and become a setback in the process of maintaining European security," Gabriel said in an interview with Interfax ahead of his visit to Russia.

"Therefore, we are watching what is going on in the Kaliningrad region very attentively and with a bit of concern," he said.

It was reported earlier that Russia would complete rearming its missile forces in the Kaliningrad region with nuclear-capable Iskander-M systems by the year's end.
