Level of violence declining in Syria despite provocations, but one shouldn't give up dialogue - Russian presidential envoy

ASTANA. March 14 (Interfax) - The general level of violence in Syria is falling despite provocations, Russian presidential envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev said.

"The Syrian armed opposition thinks that the level of violence has largely risen through the fault of the Syrian government. We cannot agree on this, because we are observing another tendency, a tendency towards a substantive decline," Lavrentyev said at a briefing on Tuesday.

He admitted that "provocations are occurring, they continue." But "this does not mean that one needs to strike a pose and abandon the dialogue."
