Threat of force obstructs Karabakh settlement - Armenian president

MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax) - Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has said that the threat of force or its use is damaging the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict.

"We unanimously believe that the threat of force or its use is absolutely impermissible and damages the peace process," the Armenian leader said to journalists after his Wednesday talks with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Sargsyan said that the subject of regional security was discussed in detail in the course of the talks. "Special attention was paid to the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement, the creation of necessary conditions for advancing the negotiating process," he said.

"The talks stressed the importance of the observance of the 1994-1995 trilateral ceasefire agreements of unlimited duration. The need for the implementation of understandings reached in Vienna and St. Petersburg was noted," Sargsyan said.

"We highly appreciate the contribution of Russia and also other cochairmen of the OSCE Minsk Group to the cause of the purely peaceful settlement of the problem," the Armenian president said.
