Kosovo authorities' plans to set up own armed forces threaten regional stability - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. March 16 (Interfax) - Pristina's intention to establish armed forces in Kosovo jeopardizes stability in the Balkans and runs counter to the relevant UN Security Council resolution, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a news briefing in Moscow on Thursday.

"We consider the Pristina authorities' intention to transform the Kosovo security forces into full-fledged armed forces, contrary to Belgrade's and Kosovar Serbs' position, as an absolutely irresponsible step," Zakharova said.

"Moreover, we deem it extremely dangerous for stability in the Balkans and the European continent as a whole. The idea to set up Kosovo armed forces is at odds with the fundamental document, i.e. UN Security Council Resolution 1244," she said.
