BAKU. March 16 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev links the migration crisis in the world with a thoughtless policy pursued by several countries towards the Middle East region.
"The current migration crisis in the world, in particular in Europe, stems from a poorly elaborated policy pursued by a number of states towards the Middle East countries," Aliyev said at the 5th Baku Global Forum on Thursday.
The president highlighted the intensification of negative tendencies in the world over the past year that is caused by flashpoints in various regions in the world. "Wars, conflicts, a migration crisis lead to a humanitarian disaster and are cause for everyone's serious concern. One needs to note that the migration crisis creates a certain discomfort for the population of the countries which accommodate migrants," Aliyev said.
The Azerbaijani head of state called military interference into the domestic affairs of other countries a genuine reason for the current volatility.
"Only 5-10 years ago there was no migration crisis, which consequently leads to radicalization of political points of view. Tendencies towards a rise in the number of slogans which are calling for anti-migration policy and nationalism have been observed in recent months. These are very dangerous tendencies, which can prompt further development of global processes in an undesirable direction," Aliyev said.
