Several foreign countries influence Syria's opposition's refusal to attend Astana meeting - Russian Foreign Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. March 16 (Interfax) - Several foreign countries exerted influence on the Syrian opposition's decision to reject their attendance at a meeting in Astana on March 14-15, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"The peace process, which has been unequivocally approved by the United Nations, has gained comprehensive support and is precisely in line with all international legal documents endorsed, is ongoing here. And it is definitely being under some impact all the same," Zakharova said at a news briefing on Thursday.

"This arouses enormous questions to the role of several foreign players in this entire process," she said.

They should stop and cease to seek "disruption in Syrian conflict settlement process," Zakharova said.

"We are assuming that these players, who are standing behind many Syrian opposition representatives, will be wiser," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
