MOSCOW. March 20 (Interfax) - All strategic missile carriers of Project 667BDRM will undergo a second cycle of manufacturer repairs, Zvyozdocka shipyard's General Director Nikolai Kalistratov said.
"The second manufacturer repair has already been completed for the Verkhoturye and Yekaterinburg nuclear-powered submarines. This year we are completing the same procedure for the Tula to be followed by the Bryansk and then the Karelia and the Novomoskovsk [submarines]. The second cycle of repairs will be performed on all missile-carriers of Project 667BDRM to extend their service life to 37-38 years," Kalistratov told the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper.
There are also possibilities for further submarine life extensions, he said. "If set the task of keeping them combat-ready further, we'll certainly complete it," the shipyard director said.
Project 667BDRM nuclear-powered submarines were built by Sevmash in the 1980s. According to the open data, the Northern Fleet's 31st submarine division has six submarines of the project. Each one of them carries 16 RSM-54 Sineva intercontinental ballistic missiles, each fitted with four multiple independently targeted reentry vehicles.
