Russia to defend security of partners ready to cooperate in Arctic - Lavrov

ARKHANGELSK. March 30 (Interfax) - Russia is willing to ensure both its own security in the Arctic and along the Northern Sea Route and security of its foreign partners ready to work together in the region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday.

"When we work together with someone, we absolutely don't do that by giving up our positions. We have our own country, the Northern Sea Route, and the Arctic shelf. Russia's security, and not only Russia's but also that of the Northern Sea Route, is ensured by the Federal Security Service and the Russian Armed Forces. When we work with foreign partners - and the president declared our readiness to do it in developing resources and in the transportation sector - we are responsible for the security of those who will come to cooperate with us. Everything is logical here," Lavrov told reporters.
