Moldovan and Transdniestrian leaders agree on procedure of settling several bilateral problems

CHISINAU. March 30 (Interfax) - Moldovan President Igor Dodon and leader of the self-proclaimed republic of Transdniestria Vadim Krasnoselsky have agreed on the procedure of setting a number of problems concerning the interests of residents on both banks of the Dniester.

"We discussed a package of issues that had been mulled thorough last month. We are speaking of problems that concern residents on the two banks of the Dniester. Some of them were included in the Berlin protocol signed last year," Dodon said at a press conference following their Thursday meeting.

He said that the solution of certain problems began already after the first meeting with Krasnoselsky on January 4, 2017. Namely the procedure of crossing the border with Transdniestria was simplified for residents of Moldova. Moldovan schools applying the Latin alphabet in Transdniestria are operating normally.

"Today Mr. Krasnoselsky handed me a list of ten Moldovan officials whose criminal cases were closed," Dodon said.

He said that the sides came closer to each other on the issue of access of Moldovan farmers to fields on the left bank of the Dniester. "There is a solution to the problem. The local authorities will settle this important matter at a technical level," he said.

Dodon said that expert groups will be working actively now to find solutions to remaining problems.

"There are certain difficulties when it comes to the license plates of Transdniestrian vehicles, landline and mobile telephone services. I hope that experts will find solutions. When they are found, our new meeting will take place to approve the decisions made. I hope that such a meeting will take place in May the latest," Dodon said.
