Ukrainian army shells 20 DPR populated localities, woman injured - DPR Defense Ministry

DONETSK/KYIV. April 7 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian army launched 46 attacks on the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) over the past day, injuring a woman, a spokesman for the DPR Defense Ministry said.

"The Ukrainian army breached the truce 46 times over the past day. In all, the Ukrainian military shelled 20 populated localities in the republic, using artillery, mortars of various calibers, an infantry combat vehicle, armored personnel carriers, anti-aircraft guns, grenade launchers, and small arms," the spokesman told reporters.

"The brutish attack by Ukrainian army artillery inflicted injuries on a resident of Shevchenko, E.I. Niftenko born in 1994. She has undergone a surgery and is currently at the Telmanove hospital," he said.

For its part, Kyiv reported 48 attacks on Ukrainian army positions in the past 24 hours. "Five servicemen of the Ukrainian army were injured over the past day," the army operation staff said on Facebook on Friday.

Strongholds located near Mariupol suffered the most, the staff said, adding that 120mm mortars, various types of grenade launchers and combat infantry vehicle weapons fired on positions in Novotroitske.

Positions in the Krasnohorivka area came under attack by 82mm mortars, grenade launchers and heavy machineguns, while various types of grenade launchers, heavy machineguns and small arms were used against Marines near Pavlopil and Hnutove, the staff said.

Ukrainian servicemen came under fire of infantry combat vehicle weapons, machineguns and small arms in Shyrokyne and Vodyane, it said.

Heavy machineguns and small arms were fired on Ukrainian positions near Lybidinske, and snipers intensified their operations near Pavlopil, the staff said.

According to Kyiv, Avdiivka was the center of attacks in the Donetsk sector. Ukrainian army positions were shelled by 120mm mortars, various types of grenade launchers and heavy machineguns during the day. Hostiles fired 82mm mortars and heavy machineguns on strongholds near Pisky. Grenade launchers and heavy machineguns were used near the Butovka mine and Troitske, and heavy machineguns and small arms were fired on positions near Novozvanivka and Verkhnotoretske.

In the Luhansk sector, Ukrainian army positions were shelled by grenade launchers near Krymske, and strongholds in the vicinity of Stanytsia Luhanska came under attack of heavy machineguns, the staff said.

Ukrainian soldiers had to return fire to suppress hostile activity, it said.
