Lavrov, Cavusoglu discuss U.S. attack on Syria, call for objective inquiry into chemical attack - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. April 7 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu have discussed U.S. strikes on Syria and stressed the importance of an objective inquiry into the alleged chemical attack in Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"On April 7, at the Turkish initiative, a telephone conversation took place between Russian Federation Foreign Minister Lavrov and the Foreign Minister of the Turkish Republic, Cavusoglu," the ministry said in a commentary.

"The ministers discussed the situation in Syria in the context of the military action undertaken a day earlier by the U.S. against that country's armed forces in the Homs province, as a result of which civilians were also killed," the commentary says.

"The parties stressed the importance of an objective, impartial inquiry into all circumstances that led to the tragic events in Khan Shaykhun, and past instances of the use of chemical weapons by militants from terrorist organizations," the ministry said.
