Russian Foreign Ministry calls on Russians who are in Egypt to exercise caution (Part 2)

MOSCOW. April (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry recommends that Russians who are in Egypt avoid crowded places.

"The Russian Foreign Ministry calls on Russians who are in Egypt to exercise caution and avoid visiting crowded places, where a high risk of terrorism remains," the Russian Foreign Ministry's information and press department said in a commentary posted on its website on Monday.

"On April 9, a series of explosions carried out by suicide bombers occurred in the Coptic cathedrals of St. George in the city of Tanta, Gharbia Governorate, and St. Mark in Alexandria, in which over 40 people, mainly parishioners, were killed and over 100 were injured," the ministry said.

"Responsibility for these terrorist attacks was claimed by the Islamic State terrorist group [banned in Russia]," the Foreign Ministry said.

"These cynical crimes committed on a Christian holiday again demonstrated the cruelty and inhumanity of international terrorism. Their purpose is obvious: to intimidate peaceful citizens, to put a feeling of fear and lack of confidence in their hearts, to sow religious feuds. We confirm our principled position of strong condemnation of any terrorist acts and we reaffirm our support for the resolute actions to uncompromisingly fight terrorism taken by Egyptian authorities," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
