BAKU. April 10 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev believes that given the current conditions in the region, it is necessary to strengthen cooperation between Baku and Moscow in the area of security, Aliyev's presidential website said.
"The situation in the region requires strengthening our cooperation in the field of security," Aliyev said at the meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev in Baku on Monday.
Aliyev emphasized that the cooperation on security is the basis for the two countries' successful interaction in the political, economic, and humanitarian fields.
He also commended the level of bilateral cooperation for the purposes of strengthening international security.
Aliyev expressed confidence that Patrushev's visit to Baku will contribute to the achievement of the goals "associated with the mitigation of risks, cooperation in the area of security, as well as with development and prosperity of the peoples of the two countries".
Patrushev, in turn, said that security helps solve all kinds of problems with the development of cooperation in various spheres.
Patrushev revealed that over the course of the visit, himself and the Azerbaijani side would discuss the issues related to international and regional security.
During their meeting, Aliyev and Patrushev exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
