MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax) - Russia's T-50 fifth-generation fighter aircraft, which is being developed under the Prospective Airborne Complex of Frontline Aviation (PAK FA) program, will cost less than its U.S. counterpart, the F-22 fighter, Russian United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) President Yury Slyusar said in an interview shown by Rossiya-24 (VGTRK) TV channel.
"It will be cheaper. Unfortunately, I cannot say how much cheaper it will be. But it will be cheaper both in terms of its purchase price and in terms of this plane's life cycle cost," Slyusar said.
One U.S. F-22 fighter aircraft has a price tag of $156 million.
"Our American counterparts have airplanes of two types: the heavier F-22s and lighter F-35s. What we are saying is that our T-50 plane, whose functions are closer to those of the heavy F-22, will nevertheless cost even less than the F-35, the lighter version of the fifth-generation plane," he said.
