Federation Council committee expects more info from Russian Defense Ministry on chemical attack in Syria

MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax) - The Russian Defense Ministry will provide additional and more detailed information about the incident in Syria's Idlib governorate, where the West claims chemical weapons were used, Russian Federation Council defense and security committee first deputy head Franz Klintsevich said.

"I think that the Defense Ministry will publish some extra and more detained information in the near future," Klintsevich told reporters after the committee's meeting on Tuesday.

He suggested that there was no chemical attack in Idlib.

If toxic substances such as sarin or soman had been used there, "people's bodies would have been heavily deformed," and volunteers working there would have been unable to help those injured without special protection gear, he said.

"Soman was not used in this case, and if there actually had been contamination with soman, specialists working there should have been wearing special protection gear. Otherwise, they would not have been able to work," he said.

The allegations describing what happened in Idlib as a chemical attack are a "bogus story intended for amateurs," Klintsevich said.
