MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax) - The Russian Armed Forces General Staff sees the allegations that the Syrian government forces used chemical warfare agents in the Idlib governorate as unsubstantiated.
"We have thoroughly analyzed the available media reports accusing the Syrian government of the use of chemical weapons in the populated area of Khan Shaykhun, the Idlib governorate. Their authenticity raises serious doubts, and not only in us," Russian Armed Forces General Staff's Main Operational Directorate chief Sergei Rudskoi told reporters on Tuesday.
"More and more reputable experts and organizations tend to share the view that the video footage has been fabricated," Rudskoi said.
The United States carried out a missile strike on the Shayrat airfield in Syria last Friday. The strike targeted the airfield, which the U.S. authorities believe Syrian aircraft used to launch a chemical attack on Khan Shaykhun.
