Mogherini to visit Russia on April 24 - Russian Foreign Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. April 12 (Interfax) - High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini will pay a working visit to Russia on April 24 at the invitation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"The negotiations are expected to address the state of affairs and prospects of Russia-EU relations, and also key international problems, including the situation in Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, and Libya, the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran, the Middle East settlement and countermeasures against international terrorism," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the European External Action Service said in a statement that Mogherini will meet with Lavrov. "They will discuss the most pressing foreign policy issues, in particular the conflict in Syria. They will also discuss the situation in Libya, the Middle East peace process, Iran, Afghanistan and the conflict in eastern Ukraine, as well as bilateral relations," the statement said.

This will be Mogherini's first visit to Russia since 2014, when she assumed the position of EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy.

The visit to Russia is a part of a larger tour, during which Mogherini will also visit China and India.
