Moscow, Washington differ on Damascus's role in chemical weapons use in Idlib - Lavrov

MOSCOW. April 12 (Interfax) - Russia is not seeking to cover up for anyone in the chemical attack incident in Syria's Idlib governorate and suggests dispatching experts to the Shayrat airfield, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"I want to say once again: I am not going to blame anyone and I am not going to cover up for anyone. We insist on an impartial investigation into what happened on April 4," Lavrov said at a press conference followinog talks with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Moscow on Wednesday.

Lavrov proposed "dispatching an international group of experts, impartial and professional ones, both to the site where toxic agents were used and to the airfield, which, according to assertions by our American counterparts, was employed to send aircraft with shells armed with chemical agents."

Moscow's and Washington's currently have different positions regarding Damascus's role in the use of chemical warfare agents in Idlib, Lavrov said.
