French foreign minister expected to come to Tashkent on Friday

TASHKENT. April 13 (Interfax) - French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Jean-Marc Ayrault is due to arrive in Uzbekistan on April 14 for an official visit, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry's press service told Interfax on Thursday.

"During the visit, [the French foreign minister] is expected to hold meetings in the cabinet, the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan and in other formats," the press service said.

France is one of Uzbekistan's key European partners, the Foreign Ministry said.

Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov visited France at the end of March.

The two countries' Foreign Ministries have regularly been holding political consultations, and cooperation between their parliaments has been established.

The association to study the art and history of the Temurids epoch and the Avicenna-France Association operate in France. A number of Uzbek universities have agreements and protocols on cooperation with leading French universities.

It was reported earlier that at the beginning of March 2017, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev had approved an intergovernmental Uzbek-French agreement that establishes and regulates the activities of the French Development Agency and of its subsidiary, the Society for the Promotion and Participation for Economic Cooperation (PROPARCO), in Uzbekistan.
