Participants in inter-regional consultations on Afghanistan concerned about growing terrorist activity

MOSCOW. April 14 (Interfax) - The Afghanistan crisis does not have a military solution; and national accord is needed for a settlement in a country where the activity of terrorist groups has been on the rise, participants to the inter-regional consultations on Afghanistan hosted by Moscow said.

Participants in the consultations on Afghanistan expressed concern about "growing terrorist activity in the country, which causes further bloodshed and multiplies sufferings of the Afghan people," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a report on Friday.

"They emphasized that the Afghanistan crisis did not have a military solution and that the only possible settlement path is to achieve pan-Afghan accord by political means, as prescribed by the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council," the ministry said.

Moscow hosted the latest round of consultations on the Afghanistan issue involving deputy foreign ministers, special representatives and senior officials of Afghanistan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan on Friday.

"U.S. representatives were invited to the consultations but did not arrive for reasons unclear to us," the ministry said.
