MOSCOW. April 17 (Interfax) - Russia expects the next round of the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva to be held in May and calls for avoiding any postponements, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"As to the next meeting on Syria in Geneva, yes, it is scheduled to take place in the period after May 3-4, i.e. after the next meeting on the Astana platform," Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow on Monday.
"Hopefully, [the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Syria] Mr. de Mistura will choose an appropriate date, as we have heard some hints that the Holy Month of Ramadan will begin in late May and perhaps it would be appropriate to wait until it ends. We are positive that the pace should be maintained," the minister said.
