MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Russia expects all inconsistencies in the ongoing investigation into an incident supposedly involving the use of chemical weapons in Syria's Idlib governorate to be eliminated, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Tuesday.
"By demanding an unbiased investigation on a geographically balanced basis, we pursue no other goal than finding the truth. Russia cannot accept the algorithm of the fact-finding mission's work in Syria with evidence and testimonies being gathered remotely, quite often without traveling to the scene, and with conclusions being adjusted to suit certain political goals that were set in advance and that we do not share," Ryabkov said in a commentary shared with Interfax on Tuesday.
"We propose a reasonable alternative that we hope will get the situation out of its current deadlock and help end the fruitless public wrangling," Ryabkov said.
"The situation urgently requires that an international group of experts promptly travel to the site of the incident and to the Shayrat airbase from where our opponents claim the strike was launched," he said.
