Dushanbe, Washington intend to bolster Tajik border guard forces' capability on border with Afghanistan

DUSHANBE. April 25 (Interfax) - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon discussed the state and prospects of cooperation on regional security issues between Dushanbe and Washington with Commander of the United States Central Command Joseph Votel, the Tajik leader's press service said on Tuesday.

"In light of the growing threat posed by international terrorism and extremism and the intensifying activities of organized criminal groups, the parties [...] put forth efficient suggestions on how to broaden cooperation in order to bolster the potential of Tajikistan's border guard forces on the state border with the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan," it said.

Rahmon and Votel also discussed interaction in military, military-technical and financial fields.

The sides also said they were satisfied with the level of cooperation between Tajik and U.S. agencies under multiple economic and military programs and reaffirmed their readiness for and interest in further enhancing interaction in these areas.
