Conflicts like that in Syria should be settled politically - Saudi minister

ASTANA. May 11 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Saudi Arabia's Minister of State for Arab Gulf Affairs Thamer Al-Sabhan have discussed a number of key topics, including regional security and ways to resolve interfaith conflicts, the Kazakh leader's press service said.

"You know that Astana recently hosted another round of Syria settlement talks. It should be noted that all Syrian opposition representatives attended this meeting," the press service quoted Nazarbayev as saying at the meeting.

Al-Sabhan, for his part, thanked Nazarbayev for his contribution to efforts aimed at solving issues facing the Islamic world, including his commitment to putting an end to the bloodshed in Syria.

As far as the Syria issue is concerned, Saudi Arabia believes that such conflicts should be resolved through a political settlement process, Al-Sabhan said. Saudi Arabia shares the Kazakh president's conviction that this problem can be settled exclusively by peaceful methods, he said.
