YEKATERINBURG. May 25 (Interfax) - More than 30 Russian aircraft, about 2,000 servicemen, and some 300 units of hardware will be engaged in the Dushanbe-Antiterror drills, to begin in Tajikistan on May 30.
The exercises will involve Tupolev Tu-95MS and Tu-22M3 strategic bombers in addition to other aircraft, Russian Central Military District Commander Col. Gen. Vladimir Zarudnitsky told reporters on Thursday.
"Russia will assign about 2,000 servicemen and over 300 pieces of hardware, including more than 30 aircraft and special operations and Airborne Forces units," the commander said.
The engagement of Tupolev Tu-95MS and Tu-22M3 strategic bombers in the war games in Tajikistan has been approved, Zarudnitsky said.
"According to the drills' scenario, strategic aircraft will hit the reserves of the simulated enemy and will drop bombs at the Kharb-Maidon training range," the commander said.
A flight of Sukhoi Su-24M attack aircraft stationed at the Shagol airbase has landed at the Ayni airfield in the suburb of Dushanbe. Mil Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters have been relocated there as well.
The Dushanbe-Antiterror 2017 drills are organized by the CIS Anti-Terrorist Center with the participation of CIS servicemen. The final stage of the exercises will feature neutralization of illegal armed units, anti-terrorist defense of crucial infrastructure, and elements of a peacekeeping operation in a highland desert.
