KYIV. May 29 (Interfax) - Russia intends to deploy nuclear weapons in Crimea, Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Parubiy said.
"Russia has stepped up the militarization of the illegally occupied peninsula by deploying the newest types of weapons and military hardware there. For instance, it is planning to deploy or, according to some information, has already deployed offensive nuclear weapons there," Parubiy said at a meeting of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Tbilisi on Monday.
Parubiy also claimed that Russia is stepping up hostilities on the Donbas contact line. A peaceful settlement of this conflict is important to Ukraine, and further political pressure on and sanctions against Russia are instrumental in this, he said. "I am sure we should jointly tighten sanctions on Russia if it keeps escalating its aggressive actions," he said.
