Russia has no reason to deploy nuclear weapons in Crimea - Klintsevich

MOSCOW. May 29 (Interfax) - Russia is not planning to deploy nuclear weapons in Crimea, and the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada speaker's remarks alleging the opposite make no sense, Russian Federation Council defense and security committee first deputy head Franz Klintsevich said.

"Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy is simply lying. The purpose is the same: he wants to demonize Russia. We have neither strategic nor tactical reasons to deploy nuclear weapons in Crimea. Besides, this would be beyond elementary common sense: Crimea is an all-Russian health resort, and the deployment of nuclear weapons there is not being discussed on any level," Klintsevich told Interfax on Monday.

Besides, it does not matter where weapons are stationed, given the modern delivery vehicles possessed by Russia, he said.

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Parubiy said earlier that Russia intended to deploy nuclear weapons in Crimea.
