ST. PETERSBURG. June 1 (Interfax) - The new launch vehicle, Soyuz-5, will perform its maiden mission in five years, Roscosmos head Igor Komarov said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
"The Soyuz-5 launch vehicle will take off in 2022. It will be customized, in particular, for launches from the Sea Launch site," Komarov said.
Once the Soyuz-5 rocket is ready, the launch cost will reduce by more than a third, to $55 million, Komarov said. "We are expecting the cost to reduce from $70 million to $55 million," he said.
